Goals & Result Areas
To cultivate conditions in which residents can be healthy,
create a vibrant “quality of place” and address conservation and
sustainability issues within greater Houston’s built and natural environments,
the foundation invests in seven focus areas, each characterized by a desired outcome. Grantseekers
should select
one of the following areas as the primary focus of their application:
Parks: The acquisition and enhancement of parks and open spaces provide recreational
opportunities and connectivity, particularly within underserved areas.
Air Quality: Reductions in levels of ambient air
pollutants to meet federal and state standards protect the
health of residents in greater Houston.
Water Quality: The preservation of water quality and quantity
in bayous, bays, estuaries, wetlands and other waterways protects natural
ecosystems, provides recreational opportunities, ensures safe drinking water and
reduces the risks of urban flooding.
Energy Efficiency and Resource Usage: The effective use of conservation and renewable energy reduces harmful emissions and solid waste generated from
residential, commercial and public entities, as well as from industrial sites and
transportation modes.
Natural Environment: Preservation and protection of the natural environment and wildlife
help to sustain the diverse ecosystems within greater Houston.
Built Environment and Urban Development: The effective use of comprehensive planning and sustainable growth principles improves growth and development patterns, supports
healthy lifestyles and enhances quality of life.
Domestic Animals:
Prevention-based strategies protect the health and safety of domestic animals and
reduce the number of
dangerous and unwanted animals.
