Overview
Houston Endowment supports initiatives to promote
wellness, prevent disease and improve access to primary care, with a particular
focus on greater Houston’s uninsured, underinsured and working poor families.
One of a city’s greatest assets is the health
and wellness of its residents. When health is maximized, productivity
increases, medical care costs are reduced, and individuals and families have an
improved chance of attaining a prosperous and fulfilling life.
Greater Houston is home to some of the
finest health institutions and the largest medical center in the world, yet many
of the region’s residents are unable to access basic medical care or other
services that can prevent disease or promote wellness. Although many private and governmental systems are in place to aid this
population, the supply of services is dwarfed by the need. Efforts must be made to reduce waste and duplication,
improve service coordination and maximize diverse revenues while achieving the
best possible health outcomes.
