Basic Needs
Houston Endowment supports efforts to help people live independent, self-sufficient lives. At times, people may need assistance with the basic needs to build or rebuild such a life.
At other times, temporary assistance with basic needs can help people manage unexpected crises so that they can return to self-sufficiency instead of
falling into a more desperate situation.
The foundation invests in three focus areas, each characterized by a desired outcome.
Grantseekers should select one of the following areas as the primary focus of
their applications:
Basic Human Needs: People have their basic needs (food, clothing, shelter) met as a first step toward gaining independence.
Basic Social Needs: People receive the legal, financial and wellness services needed to begin to build or rebuild independent lives.
Crisis Intervention: People effectively manage unexpected financial crises by obtaining temporary assistance for expenses related to shelter, food, energy and/or transportation.
