Houston Endowment, which recognizes that families vary, defines safe families as those in which all members are respected and feel valued and safe. The foundation invests in four focus areas, each characterized by a desired outcome. Grantseekers should select one of the following areas as the primary focus of their application:

Education: The public can recognize the signs of domestic violence and child abuse, and is equipped to act appropriately when family violence is suspected.

Prevention: Youth and adults considered at-risk for family violence (as perpetrators or victims) engage in healthy relationships with their partner and with their children.

Intervention: Children and adults in need leave abusive environments.

Treatment: Victims of abuse develop the capacity to live safe, productive lives and to engage in healthy relationships.
