We are dedicated
to ensuring that our community’s disadvantaged youth have
greater access to quality programs and services that will enhance
their lives and shape their futures.
— Boys and Girls Club of Brazoria County
Children with nothing to do and
nowhere to go after school are at higher risk to use drugs, join
gangs and become involved with violent crime, as either participants
or victims. Teenage girls are more likely to get pregnant. Unsupervised
children receive poor grades and drop out of school at higher rates
than those involved with supervised, constructive activities. The
vast majority of parents, whether married or single, work outside
of the home and are not with their children during critical, after-school
hours. Many families and communities can’t afford to keep
children safe and engaged in extracurricular activities that help
them develop talents and skills. Nonprofit agencies have stepped
in to provide programs that help vulnerable children grow through
after-school computer classes, field trips, homework assistance,
art lessons and transportation so they have access to positive,
life-changing experiences.
