  Sexual Abuse

American Festival for the Arts
The Children's Assessment Center

For the thousands of sexually abused children in Harris County every year, these services are their best hope of rebuilding
love and trust.

— The Children’s Assessment Center Foundation

According to the National Children's Alliance, one in four girls and one in seven boys will be sexually abused before they are 18. The perpetrator is usually someone they know and trust. When compared to other children, sexually abused children are much more likely to have serious mental and emotional problems, to use drugs and alcohol, to fail in school and to abuse others, especially if their situations are undiscovered and they are untreated. Through the compassionate and coordinated care of family, social workers, therapists, doctors, nurses and law enforcement officers, children can heal from their trauma and change the cycle of abuse in the community.
