A child asked
his mother, “Mama, will I be the only one there in a wheelchair?”
His mother will never forget the look on his face when he saw all
of the other children in wheelchairs and realized that he was no
longer different.

People with chronic diseases and
disabilities endure pain, hospitalization, limitations and harsh
treatments. Physical struggles and emotional ordeals particularly
challenge sick children, who often are isolated and dependent on
family for friendship and fun. Camps designed and operated to accommodate
people with special needs allow both adults and children to enjoy
fishing, hayrides, swimming and picnics, and give weary caregivers
a break. More importantly, whether for a week or a day, they provide
opportunities for campers to enjoy rare camaraderie and fulfilling
experiences in environments where their illnesses frequently are
forgotten.
To help provide memorable, positive experiences for people with
special needs,
