| Leadership Rice intern (center) with
Houston Endowment grant officers |
I was fortunate to take part
in the policymaking process that reaches people around the country.
This experience has ignited a true passion for public service, which
I hope to continue, whether as an attorney or public official.
— 2004 Mickey Leland Congressional
Intern
University of Houston
Internships turn theory into reality and help
students become leaders. Whether serving as interns in the United
States Congress, in the Texas Legislature or in local foundations
and nonprofit agencies, students learn the value of public service,
expand their career opportunities and broaden their worldviews through
hands-on experience. Stipends and paid living expenses allow students
to witness the contributions nonprofit agencies make to the communities
they serve or to spend a semester immersed in the political and
legislative processes in Washington, D.C., and Austin. Through internships,
students become aware of their ability to improve the world through
their personal and professional lives.
To help groom the next generation of leaders, Houston Endowment
