education in our communities.

Democracy depends on informed, involved citizens,
and a variety of organizations are exposing young people to the
power, privilege and responsibility of public participation. Weeklong
trips to Washington, D.C., excite students about the democratic
process of government and challenge them to accept the responsibility
of freedom. Innovative international educational programs at schools
in Houston help create an awareness of other cultures, countries
and economies, prepare students for today’s global environment,
and encourage them to understand how they can contribute to national
security and personal well-being by being informed, active citizens.
