Wendy Montoya Cloonan will become Associate General Counsel at Houston Endowment effective November 1, 2016. As Associate General Counsel, she will be responsible for advising on a variety of legal issues, overseeing all compliance related policies and procedures, and assisting with special projects.
Ms. Cloonan served as Senior Program Officer at Houston Endowment from February 2015 to October 2016.
A private foundation, Houston Endowment awards approximately $85 million each year to charitable organizations serving the greater Houston area. The legacy of Jesse H. and Mary Gibbs Jones, the foundation manages $1.7 billion in assets.
Ms. Cloonan earned a bachelor’s degree from Yale University, a Master in Public Policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, and a law degree from The University of Texas School of Law. She has practiced in the area of public law and public finance her entire career, focusing on tax-exempt bond transactions for school districts and charter schools as well as advocacy work during the last four Texas legislative sessions. Ms. Cloonan was most recently an attorney with Andrews Kurth LLP. Before attending and during law school, Ms. Cloonan was a policy aide for State Senator Rodney Ellis.
