Catherine Butsch Villarreal joined Houston Endowment on May 15, 2017, as director of communications. Catherine brings extensive experience in strategic communications for nonprofit organizations doing transformative work. Most recently, she served as Director of Communications at the Houston Parks Board, where she led the development and execution of proactive external communications strategies for the organization as it took on the ambitious, citywide Bayou Greenways 2020 project.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University. Earlier in her career, she worked in communications at the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids in Washington, D.C., a public health advocacy organization, where she contributed to creative digital anti-tobacco campaigns and strengthened the organization’s social media presence.

Working with the President and senior leadership team, Catherine will develop and guide the strategy for all communications to effectively and consistently articulate the Foundation’s mission and work to both internal and external audiences.
