Russell Ramsey joined Houston Endowment on March 27, 2017 as program officer for education. Russ brings extensive experience working as both a teacher and a school leader within complex educational systems. Most recently he served as an Assistant Principal and Manager of School Climate Systems for KIPP: New Orleans Schools where he led professional development focused on enhancing leadership, implementing restorative practices, and improving school climate.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University and a Masters of Public Policy concentrating on K-12 Education Policy from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University. Earlier in his career, Russ served as a consultant for the Minneapolis Public Schools Department of Research, Evaluation and Assessment; founding principal in the Tennessee Achievement School District; and as an elementary, middle, and high school teacher and teacher coach in Charlotte-Mecklenberg Schools, KIPP Eastern North Carolina, and KIPP New Orleans.
Working within Houston Endowment’s focus area of Post-Secondary Success, Russ will focus on promoting school systems that effectively educate all students; increasing the number of highly effective teachers and school leaders, and strengthening the systems that increase college completion.
