HouArts in Action centralizes advocacy efforts and messaging for the arts sector. Through these efforts, it seeks to protect and grow public funding, create and preserve vibrant cultural spaces, build pathways to economic opportunity, and communicate effective stories about the richness of Houston’s culture.
Launched in 2023, the award is named after Houston Endowment’s founders, Jesse H. and Mary Gibbs Jones. The annual program was established to recognize local emerging artists and has honored 27 artists since its inception.
SMU DataArts, the national center for arts research based at SMU Meadows School of the Arts has named Bao-Long Chu, program director for arts and parks, as its fourth Nasher Haemisegger Fellow.
